Welcome Back!! My blog is up and running again! I
did go ahead and re post the last entry to this blog so they would all be in the
same place in order. So now it I time to write my paper!! Starting with a
thesis statement! I was always terrible at thesis statements but as I learn
more about them, they being to make more sense. Our entry for today had to be
our thesis statement. The book we are working with gave us a few templates and
while I couldn’t find one that specifically could work, I worked with it. The
Thesis, if you are unaware, is like what they call a topic sentence in middle
school. It tells your audience what your writing is going to focus on in about
1-2 sentences.
In the past I never really picked a thesis
statement, I just wrote an introductory paragraph and that was it. I couldn’t even
tell you what my thesis was, or pick it out. Which could of made my writing
very broad and off topic. I feel as though since I actually picked a thesis and
focused on my topic my writing will be stronger, more specific, and on topic.
Thesis
Statement:
Based on the study of children with divorced parents,
the evidence strongly suggests that children are developing mental and physical
problems opposed to children of non-divorced parents.
This first draft of your thesis is helping me see where you're headed with your essay and raised a few questions for me. Do the problems that children of divorced parents develop affect them just in adolescence or are these problems that often follow them into adulthood? If the divorce itself is not preventable, can the problems be prevented? If the affects can't necessarily be prevented, what are the best ways for affected individuals to cope with these issues? Perhaps you're already planning to explore the answers to these questions in your essay, and hopefully these questions will help you continue to focus your research essay.
